Scientist tells organic food conference about increased pesticide residues

(Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- Pesticide residues in crops are going up as a result of genetically engineered varieties, mostly Roundup Ready. The EPA is currently considering raising Roundup residue tolerances for wheat, the transgenic varieties of which are expected soon.

Below is a link to the text of a speech delivered by Dr. Charles Benbrook at the 2003 Eco-FarmConference at Asilomar, CA on Jan. 24.

It contains a summary of research, some of which is very recent, on levels of pesticide residues in foods...http://www.biotech-info.net/Ecofarm_Food_Safety.pdf. This will also be available shortly on the "Links" section of the CropChoice website.

Dr. Benbrook will be a featured speaker at the Western Sustainable Agriculture Working Group Annual Meeting in Moscow, Idaho, Jan. 31 - Feb. 2. You may still register to attend this meeting. More information on thismeeting can be obtained at http://www.westernsawg.org
