Pesky barriers not based on good science hurt trade, report says

(Wednesday May 7, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- The National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) claims in a report issued yesterday that the national standards and technical regulations imposed by the European Union and other major U.S. trading partners are trade barriers based on unsound science.

The NFTC says the products hindered by these barriers include beef and poultry, fresh and processed fruits and nuts, food additives, vitamins and nutrients, wines, foods derived from biotechnology, aeronautics, automobiles, consumer electronics, computers, chemicals.
