Harvest States Opens Grain Office in Brazil (Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- AgWeb:
Harvest States, the grains and foods division of CHS Cooperatives, today
announced the opening of a Brazil-based grain marketing office. Known as
Harvest States do Brasil
Ltda, this wholly owned subsidiary originates and markets primarily
soybeans for export to Pacific Rim and European buyers.
Harvest States do Brasil Ltda, currently in temporary office space, will
headquarter in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Stefano Rettore, currently involved in
originating and exporting soybeans in Brazil, will lead the group of 20
employees. Harvest States will not own or acquire any elevators or
terminals as part of this new business.
"As our grain customers have grown increasingly global, so have their
expectations that Harvest States would become global alongside them," said
Rick Browne, senior vice president, Harvest States. "Today's grain buyer
demands seamless, year-round commodity supplies. The Brazilian soybean
harvest counterbalances the U.S. season, so Harvest States can truly become
a full-service grain originator for all of our customers. That is critical
to maintain and strengthen our position in the global grain markets, and to
continue to add value for our member-owners."
Moving nearly a billion bushels annually, Harvest States current stands as
the third largest grain exporter in the U.S. It markets predominantly
soybeans, wheat, corn, barley, oats and milo, along with specialty crops
such as sunflowers, flax and canola.
