Japan approves three transgenic foods (May 18, 2001 -- Cropchoice news) -- The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture approved an herbicide tolerant corn from Novartis, and Bt corn by Monsanto. It also approved three varieties of Monsanto's herbicide-tolerant rice. What's left to do now is a mandatory food safety assessment.
