Sri Lanka bans transgenic foods

(April 16, 2001 --Cropchoice news) -- Beginning May 1, Sri Lanka will ban the import, manufacture, transport, storage, distribution and sale of any food item that has been produced using genetic engineering technology.

According to Health ministry studies, chocolate, oils and soups with transgenic ingredients have been marketed in Sri Lanka.
