South Africa moving slowly on labeling, yet GM white corn harvest on the way (March 15, 2002 -- CropChoice news) -- As the South African government slowly debates the future of mandatory labeling of transgenic crops, the country’s farmers are preparing to harvest what is a relatively small acreage of the first white corn genetically engineered to express the insecticidal bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt).
At this point, there are no plans to segregate the transgenic white corn from conventional white varieties during milling.
