India blocks U.S. soy and corn shipment over biotech concerns

(Thursday, April 17, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- The Indian government has again blocked U.S. food imports because officials are concerned they might contain unapproved genetically modified material. New Delhis Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) said that US agencies had "failed to submit an authenticated certificate that the consignment containing soya corn blend as food aid under ICDS programme does not contain the Starlink corn, which is banned in India," according to just-food.com quotes of said Indian press reports.
