Egyptian millers reiterate that they will reject transgenic wheat (Feb. 11, 2002 – CropChoice news) – Representatives of Egyptian millers attending a Middle East regional agriculture conference reiterated their intention to reject any wheat that contains traces of genetically modified material.
The region imports millions of tons of wheat a year from the United States; Egypt last year imported 3.5 millions tons.
