Brazil to export record amounts of corn

(Dec. 21, 2001 – CropChoice news) – Brazil is exporting lots of corn this year, possibly more than 6.2 million tons. Part of what’s driving overseas demand for Brazil’s maize harvest, a record 42 million tons this year, is the fact that it disallows the commercial growing of transgenic crops, according to Safras e Mercado. Last year, the country imported 1.8 million tons of corn.

Most Brazilian corn traditionally has been used as feed in its pig, poultry and cattle industries.
