Law enacted to regulate GMO use

(Thursday, June 12, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- Japan Today, 06/10/03: TOKYO — The Diet enacted a bill into law for regulating the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Japan on Tuesday, with the House of Representatives approving it at a plenary session following its earlier adoption by the House of Councillors.

The GMO usage law, expected to take effect next year, provides Japan with a legal framework to ratify the 2000 Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. (Kyodo News)
