FDA should take next step to testing, labeling transgenic food

(May 10, 2001 -- Cropchoice news) -- This could be a sign, albeit premature, that the agri-biotechnology industry and our government are coming around on the issue of transgenic food.

The Food and Drug Administration has proposed rules requiring the heretofore voluntary submission of information about new plant biotechnology at least 120 days prior to commercial distribution of the products.

This is a start. The next step is mandatory safety testing and labeling of transgenic food and fiber.
