Japan goes in search of non-transgenic soybeans from Brazil and Canada

The word out of Asia is that Japan, in search of non-transgenic soybeans, will import fewer U.S. beans and more from Brazil and Canada.

Brazil’s share of the Japanesesoybean market increased from 12 percent in 1999 to 16 percent last year in terms of volume, according to the U.S. agriculture attache in Japan. Meanwhile, Canada’s market share rose from 3 percent to 5 percent. The U.S. share fell from 79 percent to 64 percent.
