The war of the 'stinking roses'

(Friday, March 7, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- The following is a Food Chain release from Metrofarm.com.

It’s us against them in the war of the “stinking roses.”

Three years ago China exported 350,000 pounds of garlic to the United States. Last year, 40,000,000 pounds! Clearly, “them” is winning!

This Saturday at 9AM Pacific, the Food Chain with Michael Olson hosts garlic men Bill Christopher from Christopher Ranch and John Vessey from the Vessey Company for a conversation about the competition between China and the U.S. for the garlic dollar.

(Listen here: http://www.metrofarm.com/index.asp?cat=40088 )

Topics will include how China came to dominate the U.S. garlic market; what impact Chinese garlic will have on U.S. agriculture; and how Chinese garlic may affect the American diet.

Listeners are invited to call the live program on KFRM, KGOE, KMPH, KOMY, or KSCO with questions and comments at 800-624-2665.
