Syngenta applies for GM wheat trials in Germany

(Friday, March 14, 2003 -- CropChoice news) --Reuters via Agnet: HAMBURG - A company spokesman was cited as saying yesterday that Swiss agribusiness group Syngenta AG has applied to German authorities for permission to start trials of ffusarium-resistant genetically modified (GM) wheat crops in Germany.

The wheat would permit lower use of plant protection chemicals, he said. It has already been tested in the U.S., Canada and Argentina and trails aim to see whether it is also resistant to the fungus in German conditions, he added.
