Wildcat Genetics

(Thursday, May 15, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- Kansas State University plans to start Wildcat Genetics, a non-profit company that eventually will sell Roundup Ready soybean seeds from varieties that KSU researchers develop.

KSU signed a research licensing agreement 6 years ago wih Monsanto, the developer of Roundup Ready plants, so named for their resistance to the glyphosate herbicide, which Monsanto markets as Roundup. The agreement means university scientists can insrt Roundup Ready technology into the varieties best suited for Kansas.

North Dakota State University started Rough Rider Genetics for the same purpose.
