EPA science panel meets to discuss Monsanto application for newest Bt corn variety

(Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 -- CropChoice news) -- The Environmental Protection Agency's Scientific Advisory Panel began its three-day meeting today in Arlington, Virginia for more review of Monsanto's newest genetically engineered corn variety -- MON 863. It contains a protein that expresses the bacterium bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) to kill the corn rootworm pest.

The Panel will examine data and take oral comments from various interested parties.
