World Food Program seeks non-biotech corn for Zambia

(Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 -- CropChoice news) -- The World Food Program on Monday reported that 12,000 tons of corn free of genetically modified organisms had begun arriving in Zambia to be fed to its people, who are facing severe food shortages. The United Nations food program was searching for another 16,000 tons from southern Africa.

The Zambian leadership in August banned all genetically engineered food aid out of its concern about human health, environmental and economic risks.
