Brazil's agribusiness intensifies pro-GMO lobby

(Friday, March 14, 2003 -- CropChoice news) --DowJones via Agnet, 03/12/03: Sao Paulo - With the Brazilian government in frantic policy discussions over genetically modified organisms, agribusiness is, according to this story, cranking up its lobby in favor of the technology.

Representatives of 24 agribusiness associations met in Sao Paulo Tuesday to articulate a common pro-GMO position. The groups will now draw up a seven- point joint letter that will be sent to the Brazilian government's GMO policy committee, led by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as well as judges and legislators.
