New Zealand objects to attempts to thwart food safety standards

(June 5, 2001 -- CropChoice news) -- New Zealand will formally object to Australian attempts to alter trans-Tasman safety and labeling standards for food, including that which contains transgenic ingredients.

Health ministers from New Zealand state and federal governments must still approve the standards, which, said a Green party member, big business was trying to weaken.
