Italians test, clear Monsanto soybean, corn seed for transgenic presence

(April 13, 2001 --Cropchoice news) -- Italian authorities found no traces of transgenic seed in 40 tons of soybean seed and and 6 tons of corn seed that police had seized last month on suspicion it contained genetically modified organisms.

It's illegal to grow transgenic crops in open fields in Italy.
