New Zealand officials destroy corn seed suspected of genetic contamination

(Aug. 16, 2002 -- CropChoice news) -- New Zealand agriculture officials plan to destroy 30 metric tons of corn seed today after tests revealed it to be genetically engineered, a no-no under current law.

Farmers harvested the seed from crops sown last summer with parent seed produced by the U.S. companies Monsanto and Garst.
