End of hunger strike against GMO corn in Philippines

(Friday, May 23, 2003 -- CropChoice news) -- Hunger strikes against last year's decision of the government of the Philippines to allow Monsanto to sell Bt corn in the country cam to end on Wednesday.

Robert Verzola reportedly told Gulf News: "I lost 18 pounds. We have done everything that is humanly possible to stop the poisoned seeds of genetically modified corn from being planted in our farms."

He and others had urged President Gloria Arroyo and Luis Lorenzo, agriculture secretary, to impose a moratorium on the planting of genetically modified corn.
